an epidemic- really...
But what does it mean to be "connected?"
It's about the connections we make with one another-
those people we encounter for the first time
or maybe after not seeing them for awhile-
or never meeting them face to face...
but through our thoughts and words
and effort and energy spent ~
they "get us"
It's those kindred souls-
the ones who share our passions,
our joys, sorrows, and grief...
It's our families
and the friends who become our families
And the time we spend:
the silliness, laughter, and the tears ~
these friends seem to know you more than you might know yourself...
It's connecting with an old friend-
and looking into their eyes
and catching a glimpse of the hopes and dreams and possibilities
of their younger self
as it merges with the person they are today...
It's knowing
that there is a reason, purpose, and gift
for each and every connection we make and hold onto...
It's connecting with oneself~
with the essence of who you are-
and who you once were-
knowing what makes you happy, peaceful, content-
sad, anxious, and angry- (it's the knowing that makes it all ok)
These connections should be an epidemic-
one that should be handled gently and with care~
It's not about the number of connections we make-
it's about cherishing and holding tight to the connections we have...

I like the idea of knowing the connections to our emotions, knowing what makes us tick. Knowing ourselves means connecting with so much around us, past and present. I connected with your verse today ... Happy Sunday :)
These words connected with me so much!
Lovely Patti, as always.
It is about strength of connection, isn't it?
I cannot imagine NOT having connections with people. What a lonely world this would be without those connections!
Those connections are so important. Nice one.
Your last two lines are so powerful and a wonderful conclusion to the whole poem. So well done.
'Friends seem to know you more than you might know yourself' are pretty good friends, Patti.
Perhaps that's why some people don't have too many friends, they want to hide those things to know.
..
I agree about the last two lines, really these say it all...wonderful words here Patti.
Hugs, G
Well, Patti, I feel connected..
You are so right...connections with others means everything. Without connections, the world is a very lonely place.
Cherish all of them! Your poem has me thinking of how fragile life is.
'It's not about the number of connections we make-
it's about cherishing and holding tight to the connections we have...'
Loved it....
An epidemic of connection, affection, of laughter and play! I second that emotion.
thanks for your lovely words at wild goose
Yes, oh yes! Connections ARE everything!
