Always Remember...

a country's monuments
are testaments
to the struggles fought over
injustice
freedom
change
ideas (ideals)
problems and solutions...
as well as to celebrate
those same things~
we can think of our daily actions
as though we are
in the process of building
a monument to the
life we have chosen to live...
behind each monument
are the lives of those
who helped make it happen~
whether these monuments
are patriotic
religious
or personal ones,
they serve
as a legacy
to those who come after
and a reminder
to never forget
what they stand for

This week's OSI prompt is monument. Please check out the other poetic talent from that site. All of the following pictures were taken by my daughter on a summer trip to Washington DC.

Powerful, to be sure. Monuments are so sturdy and still, yet they remind us of the tender life that gave rise to their being.

I like the idea of our daily actions building a monument to the life we have chosen. The idea treats our life journey with much respect. Great monument photos, too!

Had difficulty loading pictures but the few that loaded were excellent :) Really I agree that monuments are legacies handed down to future generations, reminders of sacrifices or art and culture.

Hi Patti...loved the pics. Your baby girl is as talented with the camera as her mama! Was that Arlington at the top? Gives goosebumps every time, as my soul wells.... Miss you...
